Disaster or ideal week… The worst and best possible scenarios for French football

The six French clubs involved in the European Cup are approaching the final day of the group stage of the competitions. While PSG, in the Champions League, and Stade Rennais, in the Europa League, are guaranteed to finish in the top two of their group, Nantes, Nice, Monaco and Marseille are aiming for qualification. We summarize the best (and the worst) planetary alignments for Hexagon teams.

Two second places, three eliminated, one drafted… The scenario from hell

On this Halloween day, let’s play scare ourselves by imagining the disaster scenario of the European week of French football. In the Champions League, Marseilles must actually win to pass a turn. In case of defeat against Tottenham, OM will finish 4th. If the Olympians are drawn, they will finish 4this (in the event of a draw between Sporting – Frankfurt) or 3e (if Frankfurt wins).

For Parisqualification is sure, but the first place is played against Juventus Turin (who are looking for 3e group place on his side). In the event of a worse result than Benfica at Maccabi Haifa, Paris Saint-Germain will finish second in Group H, synonymous with an opponent topping their group.

In the Europa League, reindeer will experience a new round of competition at the end of winter. Bruno Genesio’s men will finish in the top two of Group B, but their final position is crucial. In the event of a worse result than Fenerbahçe (11 pts for both teams after 5 days), Stade Rennais will play the round of 16 in February against a club drafted into the Champions League. The Bretons host Larnaca (Thursday).

Nantes there is also pressure on the last day of the Europa League. Should they lose, the Canaries will finish third and therefore be redirected to the knockout stages of the Europa League Conference. Same scenario if Nantes draws and Qarabag wins against Fribourg.

monaco could lose everything on their side and finish fourth in Group H of the Europa League with a loss against Red Star Belgrade and if Trabzonspor win or draw against Ferencvaros.

In the Europa League Conference, Nice currently first in Group D, but could fall to third place, synonymous with elimination. In the event of a defeat against FC Cologne and a victory or a draw of Partizan Belgrade against Slovacko, the Azureans will take the door.

Three first places, three second places… The dream scenario

After seeing everything in black, imagine a good scenario now. In case of victory against Juventus and a better goal difference than Benfica Lisbon, the PSG will be first in his group, synonymous (logically) with an opponent who is easier to maneuver in the round of 16.

L’Olympic Marseillefor its part, must win against Tottenham to qualify and can even hope for a draw between Sporting and Frankfurt to top group D. A situation the Tudor men dream of.

In the Europa League, reindeer must win against Larnaca and do better (in points or in goals) than Fenerbahçe, who will face Dynamo Kyiv. First place would prevent the Rouge et Noir from going through the knockout stages of the Europa League, and go directly to the round of 16.

For FC Nantesthe best possible result in the Europa League was second place, with Athens winning against Olympiakos and Qarabag holding out against Freiburg. monaco will not be able to reach the first place, promised Ferencvaros. But in the event of a win against Etoile Rouge or a draw in the two group matches, ASM will finish second. Finally, in the Europa League Conference, Nice can secure its first place by beating Cologne.
